UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson retired from MMA earlier this year. He announced that he had a new venture but kept a secret until now. Johnson made it clear he didn’t like “rolling around” with other dudes and didn’t want to do any further damage to his body. Rumble Johnson also said he never was that into contact sports, although that’s hard to believe, as he’s knocked out some of the best mixed martial artist on the planet.
Earlier rumors had Rumble trying to make an NFL team. That is hard to do in your 30s, even if you are one of the baddest man on the planet. That turned out to be a false report, but he is interested in working out in the grass, just a slightly different grass. Here is the latest quote from Fox Sports:
““My friend Paul, he’s into cannabis, we are opening up a new facility. It’s going to be for medical uses,” Johnson then revealed on “Heated Conversations” with retired WWE superstar Booker T. “We’re gonna get in that way. We’ve got some really good things going on. It’s already big. We are just waiting on that law to pass and whenever it passes, we’re golden. We are going to play our cards right. We’re playing everything by the books so that way there is no issues. We are good to go.” The Florida MMA fans into cannabis are lined up already.
Anthony Johnson retired in his prime at just 33, with a 22-6 MMA record. Most everyone wanted to see a showdown between Johnson and Jon Jones, but that is unlikely to happen now that Daniel Cormier still has the belt and will face Jones later this summer.
Rumble might come back if he gets the urge to fight again. Who knows, the laws in Florida might take a while to get implemented and he never made the millions that other fighters like Conor McGregor and Jon Jones made. The UFC would love him to come back, as the promotion needs exciting fighters now that Conor, Rousey and other top draws are inactive.
For now, you can check out Rumble when and where his smoke shop opens up.
