Dana White Sets Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson for UFC 223

There’s been a lot of anticipation about when Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson would face off in the octagon. After more than a year of waiting, the fight looks to be set for UFC 223 in Brooklyn, NY.

White stopped by the sports show “T-R” in Boston this week and did not officially say the fight was a done deal but the UFC 223 card is the target on April 7th. This will be the second time the promotion stops in Brooklyn. The UFC has a huge fan base in New York and this is one of the most exciting cards to showcase.

By all reports, Khabib has still not accepted the deal to fight Tony, but he has publicly stated he could fight two champions on the same night, so the deal should get done soon. The Russian’s long-time manager Ali Abdel Aziz, confirmed there is currently no deal yet.

Nurmagomedov thinks the UFC should strip Conor McGregor of the lightweight belt first, then make the title fight between him and Tony. The UFC however, seems to want to keep Conor happy and a potential mega-fight between the winner of Khabib and Tony Ferguson open.

With so many stars suspended from the UFC in the last couple of years, the organization needs a massive PPV draw. Conor coming back and fighting Khabib or Tony Ferguson would be huge. The UFC wansts to keep that door wide open. Dana White has repeatedly stated he would strip Conor of his title unless he came back and fought. It seems there is no clear deadline though. Conor last fought Eddie Alvarez November 12th, 2016. That is over 14 months of holding a belt and not defending it.

While you shouldn’t hold your breath for Conor’s UFC comeback, the Khabib vs. Tony ferguson fight looks like a done deal for April 7th and it should be a war.
