Former UFC superstar Matt Hughes is still unresponsive, nearly three days after colliding with a train, near his home in Raymond Illinois. Accident investigators are not sure why Hughes, 43, crossed the tracks just as the train was approaching. According to local police authorities, Hughes drove his pickup “directly in front of the train and the train then hit the passenger side of the truck.” The accident occurred about 10:45 a.m. Friday morning.
Matt was then airlifted to St.John’s hospital in Springfield Illinois where the trauma team worked to keep the retired UFC fighter alive. At this time Hughes is stabilized with no broken bones or serious internal injuries, according to a spoke person for the family. State police will be doing a full investigation into the accident.
