The much anticipated fight between UFC legend Conor McGregor and Floyd “money” Mayweather is finally going to happen August 26th in Las Vegas. Both the McGregor and Mayweather camps came to an agreement earlier this week. UFC president Dana White confirmed the news and gave a few details about the highly anticipated bout. The fight will be held at the T-Mobile arena on the strip. The fight weight will be 154 pounds with 12 rounds. Each fighter will be wearing 10-ounce boxing gloves.
The Nevada Athletic commission already approved the boxing date, but for the MGM arena, where Floyd usually fights. There should be no problem however, changing the venue over to the T-Mobile arena. The bout will be aired on Showtime PPV. The undercard will be strictly boxing and be promoted by Mayweather Promotions.
Mayweather had said previously that he would only come out of retirement for a fight with Conor McGregor. At 49-0, with some analyst believing Floyd is the greatest pound for pound fighter of all time, it looks like he will cruise to perfect 50-0 record. Conor McGregor, while an amazing MMA fighter, has no pro boxing experience at all. While Conor does have good boxing skills for a MMA fighter, he will likely get picked apart by Floyd and schooled for the entire fight.
Many believe that if Conor just makes it a couple rounds it will be a victory for the Irish superstar. Both fighters are expected to make over $100 million for their services. With rumors circulating that Floyd spends $75 million per year, he probably needs a big money payday, as it’s been almost 2 years since his last big paycheck. If Conor wins, it will be one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing and further cause the deterioration of the sport. One thing is for certain, it will be an exciting fight and the world will be watching.
