In one of the biggest, if not the biggest fight cards of the year, Junior Dos Santos faces current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 211 in Dallas Texas. Even though Stipe holds the belt and Dos Santos comes in as the underdog, there is unfinished business as far as Stipe is concerned.
In their first fight, it ended with a bit of controversy. Dos Santos got the unanimous victory after their 5 round war, but it was razor close. Some MMA pros thought Stipe actually won the “fight of the night” bout. Now Miocic is looking for revenge and to keep his heavyweight belt around his waste. Miocic is 16-2 overall with a 10-2 record in the UFC. Dos Santos has a MMA record of 18-4 and is 12-3 in the UFC.
In what is sure to be a “slugfest,” the two heavyweights will be throwing some serious bombs. In their first match-up, both fighters looked like they had been to hell and back when the fight ended. Jr Dos Santos had his lips reconfigured in a snake like pattern and Miocic had his left eye smashed shut. The heavyweight division is no joke. The top fighters can do some serious damage with just one punch. With a five round contest pitting 2 of the best strikers in the world, some serious hurt is going to go down.
The heavyweight division is in a bit of a lull after lightweight fighter Conor McGregor has been getting all the attention. With McGregor on the sidelines, looking for a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, it’s time for the heavyweights to lay claim to their crown as “baddest man in the world.” The division is stacked with killer fighters.
This fight could go either way. Will Stipe have the same hunger to keep the belt as he did to get it? Or, will Junior Dos Santos make a huge UFC comeback and take the belt back to Brazil? Tune in Saturday May 13th to watch it all live.
