Some big time gamblers are pouring into Vegas and placing their bets on the much hyped showdown between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Conor McGregor. This past Friday, a monster bet of $880,000 was put on Floyd at the South Point Casino’s Sportsbook. The bet was so big the computer could not process it. The printed ticket posted an incorrect winning payout of $120,000 for a total of $1 million, not the correct amount of $1,040,000. This is because the computer can only process bets up to $1,000,000. The story broke after a betting firm, Vegas States and Information posted the ticket out on social media.
The bettor, who wants to stay anonymous, is risking nearly one million dollars that Floyd will take care of business and walk away with a victory. A win would give Floyd a perfect 50-0 professional record and cement his legacy as perhaps the greatest pound for pound fighter of all time. No word yet if Floyd’s going to bet on himself but he has a perfect record doing so. With this fight being perhaps his last, maybe Floyd will put down a couple million and laugh at his doubters.
While the smart money might be on Floyd, the rewards are on Conor. If this guys $880K bet pays off, he will only win $160,000, as Mayweather is a -550 favorite at the moment. A million dollar bet on Conor would pay about $3 million but the lines have changed drastically in the last couple weeks. No doubt there will be other big bets in the coming two weeks. Someone just might have the courage or craziness to put $1 Million on Conor McGregor. Conor has youth, size, speed and the X factor over Floyd. McGregor will no doubt take the fight to Floyd and try and get inside his head at every chance he can.
So far this is the largest recorded bet for the fight going down August 26th at the T-Mobile arena. It just might get as much betting action as the Superbowl.
