War Machine Gets Slammed in Assault Case against Former Porn Actress Girlfriend Christy Mack

Former top Bellator and UFC fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver, better known as War Machine, was convicted of 29 felonies in a Las Vegas court Monday afternoon.  The multiple guilty charges ranged from kidnap, beating and sexual assault  that date back to regular beatings of his former girlfriend.  The victims in the case were former porn actress Christy Mack and her then boyfriend Corey Thomas.  Corey received a severe beat-down after War Machine spotted him in bed with his former girlfriend.  This led the MMA fighter into a rage that ended with near death like wounds to his victims.

While there seems to be little hope for the former MMA athletes future, as he faces a life sentence for his actions, jurors were deadlocked on an attempted murder charge against Mack.  An acquittal of the three charges of burglary using a weapon, sexual coercion and battery with intent to commit a sexual offense were dropped.  In all likelihood, he will receive at least a 40 year sentence to possibly life behind bars.  The case received widespread media attention as the former porn star Ms. Mack openly spoke of her domestic violence assaults.  She went so far as to give the AP (associated press) permission to tell her story and release her real name.

Mack was not in the courthouse Monday as the verdict was read.  War Machine was huddled next to his defense lawyers as the guilty verdicts came down, one after the other.  He simply crossed his arms over his chest and was silent as the charges came down.  The only visible reaction was a slight shaking of his head as the verdicts were read out loud.  Sentencing will be on June 5th, 2017.  It will be interesting to see if Ms. Mack shows up to the sentencing and asks the judge to impose a life sentence on her former boyfriend.  Based on the crime and the multiple assaults, War Machine could very well never get out of prison again.  His only fights left are with his soul and anyone in jail who dares to cross him.

Defense attorney Jay Leiderman did speak after the court session ended.  He stated “War Machine is a tough guy.  He took the verdicts and it is obviously the worst day of his life.”  The attorney stated the conviction will be appealed.

While the jury was made up evenly of 6 women and 6 men, the appalling domestic violence made it easy for jurors to reach a swift guilty verdict.  None of the jury members decided to talk to the press nor attorneys after the court proceedings.

Prosecutors in the case, Jacqueline Bluth and Robert Stephens were each pleased with the juries verdict.

Even though former porn actress Christy Mack did not immediately report her abuse, she eventually called the authorities and cooperated with prosecutors.  She spent 8 hours on the witness stand, detailing her hellish beatings and repeated rapes.

The defendant was characterized in the trial as a “raging bull” that suffered from multiple brain injuries from fighting, including emotional damage from long-term steroid abuse.  A pattern of behavior with crazy mood swings, which were referred to as “roid rage” were discussed, that partially explained the violent actions.

The final assault occurred when War Machine unexpectedly showed up at Mack’s home, turned on the lights and found his x-girlfriend in bed with Thomas.  War Machine then punched and choked Thomas repeatedly.  The shocked victim thought he was going to die.  Mack ended up with a smashed body that included missing teeth, broken nose, injuries to her leg and eyes.  She also had a lacerated liver, which could have been a fatal injury.

Mack was able to flee the residence when War Machine went to the kitchen to get a knife.  She ran to a nearby neighbor’s house and begged for help.  The authorities were then called and started the search for War Machine.  It only took the police a week to find him outside Los Angeles and he was sent to Nevada to face multiple charges.

Koppenhaver legally changed his name to War Machine and it seems he could be deemed the girlfriend assault machine, given his horrific violence towards Mack.  He fought for both the UFC and the Bellator promotion.  He compiled a 14-5 record, fighting as a welterweight.  Both his fight promoter and sponsors  dropped him after he was charged in the now famous porn star assault.  Now he will surely compile a new fight record in prison for the next several decades.
